Basil is a yearlong green aromatic herb that grows 30-40 inches of branched stalk. The leaves are in the form of egg and pointed at the end. Small, white flowers are found on the upper trunk. The whole plant has a nice flavor and aroma.

 

The home of basil herb is India.Long ago,5500 years ago the Egyptians knew this plant,and the remains of this plant were found in the tombs of the pharaohs of the period.

Basil is a known herb for medicine and as a spice.For growing this plants a soil rich in humus is needed,and protection from sun and wind.The herb is particularly sensitive to low temperatures and does not tolerate cold water.

 

As a medicine is used the whole plant, and its seed. Until now its known effective medicinal substances are essential oils,methyl-cineol klavikol, tineol, lineol, camphor, saponin glycosides and acid, as well as many others.

Basil in the folk medicine has a very wide usage in the treatment of humans and animals.It is used to treat inflammation of the stomach and intestines,the cough,the initial phase of tuberculosis disease, the urinary tract (kidney, bladder).It is commonly used in the form of tea.

Basil is used to calm the nerves,stomach cramps,easier wetting, treatment of asthma and inflammation of the kidneys.It is also used to improve appetite and against insomnia.The seeds of basil are used to treat urinary tract diseases.
