Listening music everyday for a period of thirty minutes can significantly lower your blood pressure - this was announced at the American Society of Hypertension meeting in New Orleans.
At people with mildly elevated blood pressure values who listened classic music for a month, Celtic or Indian music for 30 minutes every day there was a significant decrease in blood pressure.
The study was made with 48 people who were taking antihypertensives (medications that lower blood pressure )due to high blood pressure. 28 participants listened 30 minutes of daily " rhythmically homogenous " classical, Celtic or Indian music and were applied slow controlled breathing exercises. The other 20 patients did not make any changes in lifestyle.
Re-measurement of blood pressure after one week and after four weeks showed that the systolic pressure (the upper pressure) significantly was reduced in the group that listened music. In the group there was a slight lowering of blood pressure. "Listening music is a safe, effective, it is a non-pharmacological method of treatment or aid in the treatment of hypertension ,"says dr.Modesti, one of the authors of the study.
It is predicted that until 2025 1.56 billion people will suffer from hypertension."
